Re: the new companion -- we don't actually know anything about the character she's playing, or whether the single photo of her standing in front of a TARDIS represents her in costume, or is just a generic publicity shot. So it seems a bit early to complain that we have yet another contemporary companion (as far as I'm aware, the BBC's budget doesn't yet extend to travelling through time and plucking young women out of history to act in a TV show) or that she's going to be a love interest (because that's all twenty-one-year-old girls are good for, natch).

Argh, THIS. I know this is a pan-fandom phenomenon, but it sometimes feels like Whofen are especially bad for ragging on teenage girls/young women, whether they're fans or actually on the show.

Also, while you may have thought that reaching the age of 21 effectively means you can drink, smoke, vote and have sex with impunity, but Moffat implying she's sexy is exactly like paedophilia.

I left a comment on your previous post saying that I worried that a young female companion plus a young Doctor would lead to emo woobie love -- that's because I think that there are LOTS more things that a 21-year-old woman is good for and I'd love to see Moffat explore them. I'd love to see a young female companion who DIDN'T fall for the Doctor because there are so many other interesting options. It would be fantastic to see her treat him somewhat like Donna did: as a friend, or with sisterly affection, or as comrades-in-peace-wielding-arms. So it's not that I don't think a young actress is good only for romance, but that I am worried that Moffat might (given Reinette and River Song).

But if she's like Sally Sparrow? That would be AWESOME.
