lizbee: Animated gif of a Weeping Angel approaching between flashes of darkness (DW: Angels are horrific)

So there I was, putting off the inevitable moment when I had to have a shower, which would involve taking off my three layers of clothes and exposing my vulnerable fleshy bits to the COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD. I was reading my flist, for although I am trying to wean myself off LJ, most of my friends are still there, so I'm still reading and commenting there.

I followed a link from [personal profile] rj_anderson's LJ to [profile] claudiagray's. I opened the link in another tab, as is my custom, and instead of going to [profile] claudiagray's LJ, I was sent to ... well, I don't read Russian, but it looked like this:

So, yeah.

(There was nothing hidden under the screenshot dialogue, as far as I can recall.)

I'd been hearing about redirects happening again, but not quite like this? I have a basic account with AdBlock enabled.

This only happened once; the second time, I went to the right page. But still: LJ need to maybe look into being less fail.

I've noticed this sometimes happens if I click the wrong thing on the LJAddons popup. (I presume this didn't happen here, but maybe some rogue script took you there anyhow.) "Yandex" is the third-party company that SUP uses to manage the newfangled LJ-search, and yes it is indeed maida fail.

Sometimes I have to click twice on links in LJ posts to get them to open. Sometimes I have to cut and paste the link to get it to open. I have noscript so I wonder if it is just refusing these redirect links?

I don't normally notice it taking longer to click on things because I use Easy DragToGo and thus don't actually click on very many links, but now that you mention it the last few times I've tried it didn't work.

Huh. Good to know.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're related... the LJ scripts I had this exact problem with were outboundlinks.me and outboundlinks.net. If you keep an eye on your status bar, the first time you click it may flash up the problem domain briefly before the link fails to go through. Adding them as 'Untrusted' in NoScript and entering "set opt_exclude_stats 1" (minus the "") into the LJ console fixed it, though I don't know if it was one or both that did the trick.

I've had that problem since I added noscript. It is... kind of skeeving me out. (And it hasn't happened to me with any other sites I use on the internet.)

That is... special.

Did you ever manage to get to the right link? Or have you been trapped in Mother Russia ever since?

It's a boardgame. It involves candy, but it is imaginary candy. It's a very simple board game, suitable for being age 5. You throw dice (maybe spin a spinner?) and move around a board.

It's a board game, as Jonquil said, for the wee small ones. Just the phrase "Gumdrop Mountain" brings back some old childhood memories.

It now takes me two or three clicks to follow any link on LJ properly. I am *so* over it, and just wish that some of my closest friends weren't quite so wedded to the place.

Eww.

My paid time is up over there in December and I don't think I'll be renewing anything. With luck DreamWidth will have figured out their plan for reading and commenting on other journals from your reading page by then.

...Do I maybe want to start using my Dreamwidth account for something other than commenting on other people's journals?

That's bizarre but unfortunately less surprising than it should be. LJ needs to stop pulling all this wonky shit, yesterday.

On the plus side, while being redirected to random places is very much DNW, as far as I know Yandex is not actually dangerous. Just unreadable to your average non-Russian LJ user. Thanks so much, SUP, for the bad-name branding of Cyrillic webpages everywhere. Thumbs up, dudes. :-\ [/Russian language student]

I have to click on links two or three times on LJ to get them to work. It's nice to see that they take their QA testing so seriously. :/
