Hello, Wednesday!

I love Wednesdays, because they're my mid-week day off.  Here is today's to-do list:

- sleep in
- go to Bridge Road, acquire new skinny jeans and a bra that isn't secretly scheming to kill me with its underwire HOW CAN A STORE BE FULL OF BRAS, YET HAVE NO NICE ONES IN MY SIZE? Oh, it was full of lacy, fancy 14G bras, but none of them were plain, comfortable and supportive all at once! It's not that I don't like lacy, fancy bras, but they don't last at all!
- come home, work on Avatar Big Bang

I'm going to Sydney this weekend, and at one point I'd had grand and responsible plans to have the damn fic finished and off to betas before SQUIDCATION.  But right now, I'd settle for "closer to the end than before".

Now, I'm going to have breakfast and embark on today's expedition.  I leave you all with a question to ponder:  why are there so many Azula/Sokka fics?  Why do so many people look at Azula and think, "Yes!  What she really needs is the love of a good man!"?

See, if I was going to pair Azula up with a boy, it would be Aang. Maybe I need to give more thought to the inherent appeal of Sokka.

I guess I can see that in theory, but I get to Azula and my brain just goes, "UM, NO."

But it has to be said, I've reached a stage in my Azula/Toph shipping where I get mad at Azula/Ty Lee because CAN'T YOU SEE THAT'S NOT RIGHT FOR EITHER OF THEM? so obviously I'm biased.

*patpat* Yes dear. ;) (I'm actually unbelievably DISINTERESTED in pairing either Azula or Toph with anyone we canonically know - I think both of them would go have lives and meet interesting people and be the least likely to be caught in the little emotional black hole that is the Gaang. But I am, like, in the tiniest of tiny minorities here, and I know that.)

No, that is totally a sensible approach. Because otherwise the Gaang becomes incredibly incestuous (...not literally, hopefully), and a break-up would become a pure sitcom situation.

It's also a common Thing I have with shipping in almost all my fandoms. Like, you know, sometimes people date outside their friends groups/coworker pool/group of comrades! It's weird! /silly-snark But for Toph I've always had this half-formed idea that some day she will just show up to some Gaang gathering with a significant other in tow, possibly literally. She found him/her! Isn't he/she neat? Now everyone be nice or she will DROP YOU DOWN CANYON.

And if/when Azula finds anyone, she tells no one. She does not want to DEAL with that shit. /dork But on the other hand, I totally get shipping a pairing/grouping so much that one is like, NO, YOU ARE ALL WRONG at everyone else they could possibly be paired with, so I hope I am not coming off snotty about that or anything.

Also, that lady in your icon is GORGEOUS.

That's Korean actress Han Go Eun! For some reason she's usually cast as the bitchy and unlikeable secondary character, but then in Capital Scandal she played BATMAN a courtesan who was secretly an assassin for the resistance during the Japanese occupation of Korea. I LOVE HER.

I've seen at least one person say the appeal (at least partly) was as an answer to Katara/Zuko. Also, both of them are their respective Team Genius?

What I want to know is: Where is all the Sokka/Teo fic? *grumbles*

Those are both good points, although the fics I skimmed did seem to feature Stepford Azula, who is sweet and just a little bit snarky sometimes, and needs Sokka's manly man-ness to rescue her from villains. Which just goes to show that early psychopharmaceuticals had some scaaaaaaaaaaaaary side effects.

Ah. I suspect part of the reason Sokka/Azula strikes me as a reasonable thing (not "Wow, awesome!", but "I don't see why not?"), is because I have not read those fic, and am picturing a relatively-in-character Azula (having made the "I am now reasonably mentally healthy and do not want to take over the world, destroy anyone's civilization, or start a war" changes it'd take to get me to ship her with any of the heroes, but not Stepford Azula. Actually, how is Stepford Azula even possible? Those words make no sense.)

As far as I can see, you basically make her Yue, but with black hair, and without Yue's wry sense of humour. Apparently that is what "sanity" looks like.

Okay, that makes less than no sense. If you're doing random personality replacements, why not turn her into Ty Lee? At least that would be funny.

I feel hypocritical saying this, as one of my major problems with my Kaleidoscope assignment was: "Oh, God, what if I got EVERYONE WRONG?" Also I watched the movie Battle Royale and then decided I liked the TV Tropes description of manga!Kazuo really a lot. Except I haven't read the manga yet but I wanted him RIGHT THEN so I wrote him in my head. But...WHUT.

Because they're silly. Clearly, what she needs is the love of a good woman - like Ty Lee! :)
