Fanniversary
Oct. 22nd, 2018 10:06 amNot that I'm counting, but it's been a year since the premiere of "Lethe", the episode that tipped me from "Star Trek: Discovery is actually turning out a bit good, I'm rather enjoying it" to "I LOVE THIS STUPID SHOW AND EVERYONE IN IT BUT ESPECIALLY KAT CORNWELL".
Actually, I am counting: in the year previous, I had written all of 14,547 words, entirely in my President Beifong AU.
Since "Lethe" aired, I've posted 132,937 words, and actually written ... well, more. Which is honestly amazing to me -- I've gone from feeling creatively burned out to achieving things I never managed before -- long, plotty fic that was written in months, not years. I guess I had said everything I needed to say in the Avatarverse (for now -- the Star Trek renaissance is proof I should never say never), and then I found myself with new stories to tell.
And to think I started "a fountain of blood in the shape of a woman" thinking it would be a couple of thousand words at the most, and that Kat would definitely be killed off next time we saw her. Thanks for not doing that, show. (If season 2 can just ... give Kat some peace so I don't exist week to week in a state of anxiety, that would be aces, cheers.)
Now that "Every Trespass" is done, I'm actually taking a break from fic writing! Despite the temptation of the Admiral's Legion fanworks gift exchange and the small handful of ideas batting around my skull, I've opened my original project, and I am Making Words. I'm going to have a rough draft of "Spring Hill Summer" by the end of 2018 if it kills me!
(Just in time for season 2 of Discovery. My sister has tentatively scheduled her engagement party for the day after the premiere. I did warn her that I'm going to sit in a corner, nursing a gin and tonic and having Star Trek Feelings at anyone who dares speak to me. That's what maids of honour are for, right?)
