*ahem* HP FIC POST
Dec. 12th, 2005 05:05 pmWell, I've written this fic, see, and although I do say so myself, I rather think it's the snail's ankles quite readable. This is the fic I mentioned in a locked post a couple of weeks back, wondering where you draw the line between gen and het and so forth. It's also the most ambitious HP fic I've written in a while, particulary in terms of structure. And it's longish, at 20 pages/7,500 words. Well, long for me; my average is 6 pages tops.
So yes,the snail's ankles quite readable. Regrettably light in Snapely matters, but otherwise tolerable.
Title: Maps to the Stars' Homes
Summary: Following the war, Harry buys a plane ticket and leaves, but the memories keep following him.
Rated: PG-13, if you care about such things.
Notes: Apparently I can still write HP fic. Who knew?
Warnings: Non-linear narrative structure. "You'll have to excuse me, I was having a flashback." Uses the 'ships established in HBP. Shamelessly self-indulgent.

Date: 2005-12-13 12:17 pm (UTC)Great little story! Clever how you have the two threads running in parallel, keeping the reader on his toes and curious throughout.
I *loved* the bit with Harry's "My Family" drawing. My authorial I.Q. is pretty much zero, but one of the few original thoughts I've ever had as to a plot was having one of Harry's friends visiting his old haunt in Privet Drive and finding something scrawled on the side of the cupboard like "MY NAME IS HARRY AND I AM SIX TODAY". This is the second story I've ever come across which scratched that particular itch, I loved it ... and his best mate's reaction.
Hermione's my favourite character, and maybe it's easier to write the bookworm, but I liked how you wrote her here; in particular the scene with Lovegood, picking up the books, was great. Plus his hoping that his daughter wasn't dead was a good line too.
So the Australian version of Hogwarts is in ... Tasmania? That might explain some things ...
Enjoyable read, thank you for the story.
